July 26 meeting will highlight challenges facing each village

Citizen input is being sought as Peachtree City continues to prepare its comprehensive plan.

The city will host a meeting July 26 where residents can participate in a visual preference survey that provides photo samples of varying types of structures and development.

Specific stations will also be available for viewing on each of the city’s five villages and its industrial park. Officials also plan to provide a brief overview of the history and planning of the city, highlighting the issues and opportunities that face the city’s future.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Future smaller meetings will take place in each village, focusing on their individual challenges, officials said.

“To a large degree, each of Peachtree City’s residential villages developed in different decades, so each have unique challenges and opportunities as we move into the future,” said city planner David Rast.

The city’s two oldest villages, Aberdeen and Glenloch, are facing redevelopment issues, and the Braelinn and Kedron villages might have concerns about maintaining property standards as the neighborhoods begin to age, Rast noted. The city’s west village is still in the growth and development phase, which brings different concerns, Rast added.

Rast said he hopes the process helps residents learn about the history and planning of the city, giving them a chance to work with city staff for a plan that could be embraced by the community.

“It’s not often that a community is given the opportunity to come together and establish a vision for the future, and it’s important that we take this opportunity and create a plan that is exciting, proactive and achievable,” Rast said.
