School supply drive underway

A Peachtree City Boy Scout is collecting school supplies that will be donated to children whose families cannot afford to purchase them.

Travis Richardson is collecting the items as part of his Eagle Scout project. He is working with Sharon Herbert of the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, who normally conducts the drive each year.

DFCS estimates that 450 students will need book bags and supplies this year, ranging from students in pre-K to 12th grade.

Collection points have been set up at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Peachtree City Library and the Summit of South Fayette church on Ga. Highway 92 south in Fayetteville, where donations will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Donated items should be new and not gently used.

Items needed for Pre-K through 3rd grade include:

• Book Bag

• Crayola crayons, 16 count and 24 count

• Crayola colored pencils, 12 pack

• 5” Fiskar scissors

• Crayola markers, 8 pack, fine tip

• Crayola washable thick classic markers

• Crayola washable thin classic markers

• Crayola watercolor sets, 8 colors

• Index cards, 3x5, plain and ruled

• Index file box, 3x5

• A to Z index file card guides, 3x5

• Elmer’s glue sticks

• Elmer’s glue 4 oz.

• No. 2 pencils

• Wide ruled notebook paper

• Pocket folders with brads

• Composition notebook, hard cover

• Composition book, 70 pages, wide rule

• 3 ring, 2” binder notebook

• Notebook dividers with pockets and tabs

• Subject dividers for notebooks

• Pencil cap erasers

• Pink pearl large erasers

• Expo dry erase markers, 4 count

• Yellow highlighters

• Tissue

Items needed for 4th through 12th grade include:

• Book Bag

• Highlighters, assorted colors

• Black sharpie marker

• Index cards, 4x6 white ruled

• Black, blue or red pens, medium point, (no gel pens)

• Black or blue erasable pens

• Protractor

• Compass

• Ruler

• College ruled notebook paper

• Graph paper, 50 count, 4” square

• 7” Fiskar scissors

• Hole reinforcements

• Covers for books

• Zippered pencil case

• AAA batteries

All funds collected during the drive will be used to purchase the school supplies. Checks should be made out to Fayette County DFCS with the words “school supplies” written in the memo line.
