Our last article covered the meaning of the word Realtor and why it’s in your best interest to contact them if you’re thinking of selling your home. Today we’d like to provide some reasons to choose either a buyers or sellers representative.

Guidance and recommendations to help home buyers and sellers identify and protect themselves from harmful practices is through agency. What is it? Why? Who does it serve? Who protects me? The fact that homes sold by a real estate professional can sell for a lot more than homes sold by owners with no professional representation is true. Realtors have the knowledge and experience to help consumers price a home accurately and navigate the intricate details surrounding a real estate transaction from start to finish.

When you’re selling your home, a Seller’s Agent can represent you with the utmost professionalism regarding your concerns and your investment. Most home sellers in today’s market recognize the hazards inherent in do-it-yourself home selling, and rely on the expertise of a real estate professional to assist them when they sell their home. The percentage of owners who sell without representation has been trending down and is now at a record low – according to a 2006 profile, less than 15 percent of home sellers sold their home without professional help, and only half of those would do it again.

When you’re buying a home, a Buyer’s Agent can represent you with the utmost professionalism regarding your concerns and your investment. This agent will use the tools available to find the perfect home for today’s “tech-savvy” buyer. They will invest their time, knowledge and professionalism to make the transaction as smooth as possible for the buyer.

Today’s consumers are savvy and well -informed and, oh, by the way, many want hassle-free professional representation when it comes to buying or selling a home. A recent report from the Consumer Federation of America reports that over 70% of consumers view real estate brokers and agents favorably. The majority of consumers value the hard work and level of service they receive from their real estate professional. REALTORS can take pride in that.
The Fayette county Board of REALTORS is one of nearly 1600 local boards and associations of Realtors nationwide that comprise the National Association of Realtors. As the nation’s largest trade association, NAR is “The Voice for Real Estate,” representing more than 1,300,000 members involved in all aspects of the real estate industry.

Patti Harris Ayers is the 2007 President of the Fayette County Board of Realtors.
