The American Legion, Fayette County Post 105, took advantage of Flag Day on June 14, to continue one if its ministries, the proper disposition of worn flags.

Flag etiquette states that they should be burned, and the American Legion etiquette states it should be done with a proper ceremony.

The American Legion approved Resolution 440 in 1937 as to the disposal ceremony. Post 105 had the salute to the flag by Cub Scout Pack #409 and various post members, including the commander, first and second vice commander, sergeant at arms, and chaplain told of the inspection of the flags people had left with them for proper disposal and several fires were begun in barrels.

"This has been a very successful ministry for us," said post commander, David Niebes. "We have an old post office deposit box in front of the Post House, and people can leave their worn flags in it. We are proud to be able to honor our country's flag in the correct manner."
