The hotel business continues to keep I-85 and Ga. Highway 74 in its crosshairs. That attention was evidenced Tuesday as Fairburn Planning Commission agreed to recommend a conceptual site plan for a 75-room, four-story Holiday Inn Express on the southside of the interchange.

The 1.97-acre site is located on the west side of Hwy. 74 between Oakley Industrial Boulevard and Peachtree Landing Circle and directly to the rear of The Package Store. The development would provide for the continuation of an interparcel access road to connect to Oakely by way of the Sleep Inn.

The commission’s unanimous recommendation came with several conditions, such as providing a 35-foot landscape buffer along Peachtree Landing Circle and the installation of a sidewalk along to the street down to the adjacent property line near Hwy. 74.

The Holiday Inn Express would be the fifth hotel to set up operation in the immediate area in the past two years. Hampton Inn came first on the east side of Hwy 74. and Oakley, followed by Wingate to the south. Third on the list was Sleep Inn on the west side of Oakley and Hwy. 74, followed by Country Inn just across Oakley, now under construction.
