WASA to prepare southside sewer planThu, 07/05/2007 - 4:07pm
By: John Munford
Peachtree City’s Water and Sewage Authority is looking toward the near future of the city’s south end, particularly on how to best provide sewer service for new and existing development. Monday night, the authority agreed by consensus to pursue a master plan that would provide sewer service to some parcels both inside and outside the city’s limits. Doing so would allow for one master pump station to be built instead of four or five smaller ones, which would be more costly for WASA to maintain, said General Manager Larry Turner. Among the parcels that would be served within the city limits are the Starr’s Mill Professional Center, which was recently annexed, and an large tract on Ga. Highway 74 and Holly Grove Road which is proposed to be built up with some stores and restaurants in addition to a senior housing development. It would also serve the Meade Field area currently owned by Peachtree City. Other parcels that would be included in the master plan are outside the city limits, including: ‰ Plantation Center at Starr’s Mill, a large retail area located at the intersection of Hwy. 74 and Redwine Road; ‰ Starr’s Mill Academy, a day care facility located directly across Ga. Highway 74 from Starr’s Mill; ‰ An undeveloped tract south of the Starr’s Mill Professional Center that is owned by Group VI; and ‰ A tract east of the Group VI tract that is currently a horse farm, but will almost certainly be developed in a different manner in the future, Turner said. The catch is that while the other developers will pay their share for the improvements to the sewer system, WASA will have to “front” the cost of the improvements to reach the horse farm until a developer comes on board for that property, Turner said. The cost for WASA could range from $180,000 to $239,000, which could be handled by the system’s capital budget, Turner added. Turner said the day care center is looking for a sewer solution because its septic field will be taken up by the impending widening of Ga. Highway 74. login to post comments |
