The recent spate of activity in downtown Senoia will continue as the old Hutchinson’s Hardware will soon be re-developed.

During Monday night’s City Council meeting, the city agreed to let the property on the city’s Main Street to be re-platted from four plats to two.

Jane Hutchinson told the City Council that a potential buyer has been identified for the property, but he was still trying to determine uses for the property.

The hardware store has been a fixture on the city’s Main Street for more than 50 years and its redevelopment will continue the progress the city has made in redeveloping the area.

In other news, the Council approved a rezoning on Hwy.16 for a 1.5 acre-tract from Residential-40 to General Commercial. The tract is just up the street from the Bank of Coweta and developers plan to place a home decor store on the site. The Council voted 4-1 to approve the rezoning, but to leave the back of the property greenspace because it abuts a residential neighborhood.

“We live in a residential neighborhood. I don’t want to live next to a car wash or beer joint,” said resident Brenda Hughes.

Councilman Keith Harrison voted against the rezoning.
