Agreement allows company to purchase mothballed hangar adjacent to Falcon Field
The Peachtree City Airport Authority has approved an agreement that would allow airport access for Chick-fil-A, which wants to purchase a 95,000 sq. ft. hangar just off the airport’s property.

Until recently, the property owner and the authority had sparred in court over whether the authority was obligated to transfer the existing airport access agreement. But Hunting Aviation, which owns the building, recently dropped its suit in court and negotiations began between the authority and Chick-fil-A.

The agreement approved by the authority last week was the same one that resulted from the negotiations with Chick-fil-A, Cobb said. The current agreement is an improvement over the former agreement because the new one has a provision for collecting modest payments even if the building remains vacant, Cobb said.

If the building is occupied, Chick-fil-A must pay the larger of a fee based on the square feet of occupied space or a percentage of the gross revenues of the business, Cobb said.

The agreement calls for the authority to be paid the larger fee of the three options. The document has not yet been executed by Chick-fil-A, but that is expected to happen as early as next week, Cobb said.

The authority has received no revenue from the Hunting facility for the past nine years since it closed, Cobb added, saying that the new agreement is a good one for both parties.

“I’m really looking forward to working with them,” Cobb said of Chick-fil-A. “I think they’re going to be a real asset to the airport and I think they’ll be a good neighbor.”

The hangar Chick-fil-A wants to buy is the former site of Hunting Aviation. The maintenance facility has been mothballed for about nine years.

Cobb said Chick-fil-A has two corporate jets that he knows of, and he figures the company will have to take on other businesses to make the project viable, though it is not yet known what those businesses will be.
