Weekend fly-in scheduled for SaturdayThu, 06/28/2007 - 2:57pm

The Peach State Aerodrome will host an Antique and Experimental Aircraft Fly-In, on Saturday, June 30. The event will celebrate the ground breaking of the new Candler Field Museum, expected to open in the fall of this year. Peach State Aerodrome is a grass strip airport located 30 minutes south of Peachtree City, in Williamson, Ga. The fly-in will feature many antique airplanes, homebuilt airplanes, antique cars, tractors and music. Food will be served all day in the Barnstormers Grille. Gates open at 9 a.m. Biplane rides will also be available. Visitors will be able to find out more about the first Candler Field Museum building currently under construction. The museum will eventually consist of seven buildings, each recreating a part of Atlanta’s first airport known as Candler Field, now know an Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. In addition to recreating the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s, the museum will have a vintage looking restaurant capable of hosting banquets and corporate functions, a full service hotel located in the Art Deco style Terminal Building, a retirement home for pilots as well an antique aircraft restoration shop.
