On July 28, 16 high school senior girls from around the state will gather in Newnan to compete for the title of Georgia’s Junior Miss at the program’s 50th Annual State Finals. Georgia’s Junior Miss is part of a nationwide endeavor to honor and reward the country's outstanding young woman for their accomplishments and is an official preliminary of the America’s Junior Miss scholarship program. Junior Miss emphasizes excellence in five categories of competition: scholastics, talent, interview, fitness and self-expression. The Georgia’s Junior Miss Class of 2008 includes Ali Arlt of Tyrone. These young ladies will arrive in Newnan on July 24 where they will spend the week interviewing, rehearsing, volunteering in the community, attending personal development workshops, and enjoying the camaraderie of their fellow Junior Miss participants. The public is invited to attend the State Finals held at the Coweta County Centre of Visual & Performing Arts, and tickets can be purchased at the door for both the 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances. The young woman chosen to be Georgia’s Junior Miss for the Class of 2008 will go on to compete in the AJM National Finals in Mobile next June, where she will have the opportunity to win a share of more than $100,000 in cash scholarships. Universities and colleges across the nation award scholarships to young women who participate in the program.
