On June 19, Piedmont Newnan Hospital CEO Michael Bass updated the Newnan Kiwanis on the current state of the hospital as well as upcoming improvements. “We’ve committed ourselves to service excellence,” Bass said. “That’s certainly what the residents of Coweta County deserve and we’re dedicating ourselves to providing it.”

The hospital joined up with Piedmont on March 1 of this year; one of the benefits is that Piedmont will invest $5 million per year over the next two years into Piedmont Newnan. Some of the money is slated for improvements to the Emergency Services, surgical and obstetrics departments as well as acquiring more cutting-edge technology, including a high-speed, 64-slice CT scanner.

Another major focus for the hospital, Bass reported, is the recruitment of primary care physicians and specialists to Coweta County. “This is a wonderful place to live,” he said, “so we’ll have no problem bringing quality physicians and healthcare workers here.”

Upcoming presentations at the Newnan Kiwanis meetings include (ret.) Colonel Ben S. Malcolm, author of “White Tigers” on July 3 and Gary Black of Georgia Agribusiness Council on July 10.

The Newnan Kiwanis Club meets every Tuesday for lunch, 12-1 p.m. at the Special Events Center, 299 Bullsboro Drive in Newnan. Community members are welcome; please call Bob Lech at 770-463-9424 or visit www.newnankiwanis.com for more information.
