Brownies share Girl Scout cookies with departing U.S. soldiers

Hundreds of U.S. soldiers returning to the Middle East after two weeks of R&R were treated to Girl Scout cookies before they boarded their World Airways flight at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recently.

More than 20 girls and their parents from Troops 16 and 341 in Fayette County traveled to the airport to personally deliver 280 boxes they had collected when they sold cookies at local stores. The Brownies had placed baskets at their booths that invited customers to “buy a box for a soldier.”

LaDonna Moss, a World Airways employee involved with Brownie Troop 16, asked about getting the cookies delivered to U.S. soldiers and the airline was able to arrange the airport event. World Airways expects to schedule one or two additional events if more cookies are available.

Many of the soldiers said the Brownies truly lifted their spirits. The girls sang a traditional Girl Scout song, and a female soldier told one of them that she had wanted to join Girl Scouts but never had the chance. The young Scout promptly took a pin from her vest and gave it to the soldier. The Scouts and their parents lined up as the soldiers boarded the flight, wishing them well as they left Atlanta.
