Voters will decide on 2 mayors, 6 council members in fall electionsTue, 06/19/2007 - 5:03pm
By: John Thompson
It’s going to be a busy election season in the county’s municipalities this fall as two mayors’ positions will be up for grabs. In Fayetteville, qualifying is Aug. 27-29. Mayor Ken Steele’s position will be on the ballot, along with the council seats held by Wilson Price and Glenn Brewer. Steele was elected to the City Council in 1994 and won the mayoral race in 2000. Brewer has served on the council since 1991 while Price has served since 2004. The qualifying fee for mayor is $342, while the fee is $234 for the council posts. Two of Peachtree City’s five elected seats will be up for election: City Council Post 1 (Judi-ann Rutherford, incumbent) and City Council Post 2 (Stuart Kourajian, incumbent). A candidate may announce at any time, but must obtain forms to announce intent to accept campaign contributions and/or form a campaign committee at City Hall before accepting contributions. Qualifying is Aug. 27-31. In Tyrone, three slots will be decided by the voters. The posts of mayor and two council posts — now held by Sheryl Lee, Paul Letourneau and Mike Smola, respectively — will be on the ballot. Qualifying for the council posts costs $144, while joining the mayor’s race costs $288. Qualifying is also the week of Aug. 27-31. — Staff writers Ben Nelms and John Munford contributed to this article. login to post comments |
