It will be an interesting, if not lengthy, meeting Thursday night as Fayetteville City Council considers passage of ordinances on group homes, maximum residential occupancy and parking. Also up will be a public hearing and the first reading of the 2008 budget and a host of other ordinances.

The second reading of the group home, occupancy and parking ordinances might result in a vote, bringing to a close the months-long discussion that began in April.

The proposed General Fund budget for FY 2008 beginning August 1 is $10,117,568, representing a 4.26 percent increase over the current budget, said city Finance Director Lynn Robinson.

The ad valorem property tax digest is expected in increase by approximately 7.5 percent in 2008, Robinson said. The increase is due to growth and reassessment, she said.

Robinson said city staff is recommending that the millage rate remain at the current 2.99 mills.

Other ordinances up for a first reading include those pertaining to parks and recreation, impact fees, the solid waste management plan and matching funds for the Preserve America Program.
