In a service on the afternoon of June 3, the Rev. Thomas L. Myers was installed at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville as its new senior pastor. The Metro Atlanta Presbytery officially commissioned Myers in a service of special music, congregational readings of Scripture and liturgy, and comments from colleagues. He is only the third senior pastor to serve Covenant in its 30-year history. In a charge to the new pastor during the service, Terry Starr, an elder at Covenant stated, “Your primary job as our pastor is not to spend hours in preparation for your sermons — but that would be good; your primary job is not to spend hours in prayer for us as a congregation — but we hope that you will be doing that, too. “Let me tell you what your primary job at Covenant is to be — it is to be filled each and every day to overflowing with the fullness of Christ so that He overflows from your life into ours. That is your primary job and what we look to see in you as our pastor.” A graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary, Myers has served in ministry for 23 years, beginning as a youth pastor in Florida and serving as senior pastor in churches in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. After the installation service Myers commented, “I am truly excited about being here at Covenant and believe that God is going to be doing great things in this community. Covenant church is a place where God is at work and touching lives in a special way. We extend an open invitation to anyone who wants to visit a church that is truly meeting the needs of people with real answers to life’s questions.” A church-wide reception followed the ceremony to honor the new pastor and his family. Many of Myers’ former associates and colleagues were on hand for the occasion. Covenant is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). It is one block north of Kenwood Road on Ga. Highway 314 in Fayetteville. For more information call the office, 770-460-9450, or visit the web ite, www.covenantpres.net. login to post comments |
