Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele welcomed close to 500 citizens to the 13th annual lighting of the city’s official Christmas tree Saturday night.

Lane Brown, Main Street chairman, added his welcome and asked the audience to observe the United States flag at half-mast honoring A. G. VanLandingham. He was a Fayette County commissioner who died just the day before.

Carla’s Dance Factory presented a program featuring six different age groups in costumes ranging from metallic blue to costumes similar to the Rockettes to adults in maid’s costumes singing, “It’s Marshmallow World.”

Several selections were sung by the New Vision Community Church, and the Whitewater Treble Choir.

Stephen Walker sang, “O Holy Night,” as Emma Lee, a student at The Joseph Sams School, pushed the button lighting the Christmas tree.

Her fellow students from the school took the stage to sing several selections as the crowds departed.
