Fayette County 4-H students take honors

In a study of adults conducted to find out what their greatest fears were, speaking before a group was rated number one. On April 14, 32 Fayette County fifth and sixth grade 4-H’ers mastered that skill at District Project Achievement and 22 came back as winners.

“They’re all really winners,” said Lauren Mosher, Fayette County 4-H coordinator. “It took a lot of work and practice for each young person to prepare for this event.”

Each 4-H’er selected a 4-H project that interested them, prepared visual aids and a demonstration, then presented their information in front of judges. Their score is based on several things including subject knowledge, visuals, and speech delivery.

The students choose from 64 projects for their demonstration. Many people may think 4-H is just cows and cooking, but it’s much more than that. Today’s projects include marine and coastal ecology, veterinary science, air science, computers, water conservation, photography, public speaking, plant and soils, performing arts, and workforce preparation, just to name a few.

Local 4-H’ers who participated were: Brittany Adams, Sydni Alexander, Henry Bentley, Brandon Blanchette, Kennedy Cann, Nicholas D’errico, Savannah Eichhorn, Sirena Eller, Cecelia Esterline, Brittany Farr, Madisson Grimes, Erica Hamby, Alex Hughes, Baylee Ivey, Tara Iyengar, Allie Janinea, Ashila Jiwani, Emily Jury, Sara Kellam, Zahra Ladiwala, Caroline Lane, Tanaz Meghjani, Jessica Needham, Zino Osehobo, Mackenna Palazza, Kristin Plunkett, Preston Rothtusz, Aaron Sunil, Destiny Teasley, Marquay White, Imani Williams, and Samantha Winship.

Volunteer and teen leaders helped 4-H’ers prepare for DPA and also attended competition with the youth. Volunteer leaders attending were Sean Healey and Robin Kolman; teen leaders were Eve DeLisle, Amy Kolman, and Sara Kolman.
