Ugandan choir to perform at Christ Our Shepherd next Wednesday

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will host the Ugandan Children’s Choir from Kampala, Uganda, on Wednesday, June 13 at 7 p.m.

Members of the choir, 28 children ranging from 6 to 12 years old, will sing and dance and tell their stories.

The concert is a part of the choir’s Suubi Tour 2007, in which they are touring Georgia and the Southeast during the months of May through August. The purpose of the concerts is to raise money to continue building the new school and orphanage.

Currently over 500 students attend the Royal School and Orphanage. Many of them live at the orphanage and sleep in cramped quarters with bunk beds pushed together, stacked three to four beds high, with two to three children sleeping in a single bed.

Construction now has begun on the new campus located on 30 acres outside the city of Kampala. However, funds are still needed to finish and furnish the new orphanage and to build the high school.

There is no admission charge for Wednesday’s concert, but an offering will be taken for the orphanage, and the choir’s merchandise will be available for sale, the profits from which will pay tour costs.

Last year the Ugandan Children’s Choir sang in over 89 appearances and concerts and raised over $500,000 for the new orphanage.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church is at the corner of Ga. Hwy. 54 and Peachtree Parkway.
