McIntosh High School senior Anne Buckle has been selected as a finalist for the 2005-2006 United States Senate Youth Program.

One student from each Congressional District in Georgia will be interviewed Nov. 18 with two awardees and two alternates being named from the group. Finalists for the interviews were selected based on their application content and program examination score.

“This honor reflects not only your achievements but also their best efforts to allow you to realize your full potential,” stated Joseph W. Searle, Jr., from the Georgia Department of Education in a letter written to Buckle informing her of her finalist standing.

The United States Senate Youth Program is open to high school juniors and seniors who are serving in an elected or selected capacity in a student government, civic or educational organization. Two delegates from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will receive an all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., (March 4-11) where they will see the national government in action. They will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials for the Departments of State and Defense and directors of federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Delegates also receive a $5,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies.
