Part of 74 south to close this weekendThu, 05/31/2007 - 3:36pm
By: John Munford
Cars will detour onto TDK Boulevard, Dividend Drive Starting Friday at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday, Ga. Highway 74 between TDK Boulevard and Dividend Drive will be closed as work progresses on the highway widening project, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The contractor will be installing cross drains under the roadway this weekend. Traffic will be rerouted onto TDK Boulevard and Dividend Drive, sending motorists through the southern end of the city’s industrial park. A similar road closing is anticipated for the following two weekends starting June 8 and June 15, on Hwy. 74 between Kelly Drive and TDK Boulevard. Traffic will be rerouted onto those roads for the entirety of both weekends, it is anticipated. The detours will be well-marked with large signs blocking the roadway and message boards used to warn motorists ahead of each detour, officials said. Hwy. 74 between Hwy. 54 and Crosstown Road is being widened from two to six lanes as part of this project. Once that portion is complete, the DOT plans to start work on the widening of Hwy. 74 from that point south all the way to Ga. Highway 85. The widening has long been sought by companies in the city’s industrial park, many of whom depend on tractor trailers using Hwy. 74 to reach Interstate 85. Motorists are asked to drive cautiously in all highway work zones, and particularly along Hwy. 74 as work progresses. “The Georgia Department of Transportation appreciates your patience and cooperation during this construction time,” said spokesman Barry Hancock. “We realize that state route 74 is a highly traveled route and important to Peachtree City residents. Widening of Ga. Highway 74 is in full swing and progressing well.” login to post comments |
