One-hundred-twenty-three new Veterans Memorial Bricks [were] in place [May 28] for the Peachtree City Memorial Day celebration. The total number of bricks in place is now 770.

Thanks to The Citizen for posting the article on the deadline to order bricks for placement for the Memorial Day celebration. The response to the notice was overwhelming as I received 79 brick orders in March.

Just to be sure everyone understands, this is an ongoing project and you can place orders for bricks all year long. The vendor allows us to place one order per year. We have chosen to send in the yearly order in April and have the bricks in place for Memorial Day.

Thanks to all of our brick patrons who were thoughtful enough to order bricks for all their family members. I received orders for 10, six, five, four orders for three and several orders for two bricks. The record stands at 11 bricks from one family.

Another service we are instituting is to place a small (5” x 7”) U.S. flag on bricks of deceased veterans on Memorial Day and leave them up until Saturday, June 2.

If you would like to have your deceased veteran’s brick decorated with a flag, call 770-631-1439. This is a free service, but we will not be embarrassed by a donation to VFW Post 9949.

We now have a website (www.vfw9949.org) that contains some history on the Peachtree City Veterans Memorial that is sponsored by Peachtree City VFW Post 9949. There is also a download button for Memorial Brick applications. There is also a brick locator file that is alphabetical and lists every brick and its location by grid coordinates.

If you have problems finding your bricks you may also call the quartermaster at 770-631-1439 or by email at rjkonrad@juno.com.
