Busy weekend for local high school teams in tournaments

Fayette Co. competed in the Raider Rumble at Alpharetta High School over the weekend. The Tigers came in sixth out of 16 teams participating. Placing for the Tigers were: Joel Carnow, Ben Loeffler, Alex Parsons, Patrick Blankenbeker and Jonathan Baeale. All of those wrestlers had third place finishes.

The team competes against Creekside & Dutchtown yesterday after the paper went to press.

McIntosh and Whitewater High School’s varsity wrestling teams competed in the Lithia Springs Lion Invitational over the weekend. The Chiefs placed 11th with 81 total points, while the Wildcats placed 12th with 79 points.

McIntosh’s Richard Hughes (112) placed third, while Matt Carroll (189) placed first. Whitewater’s placers were Kenny Kellerman (135), who placed fourth, and Jacob Williamson (145), who placed third.

Other wrestlers for Whitewater who picked up wins over the weekend were Michael Escerra (103), Nathan Nester (119), Mikey Curtis (125), Chase Penland (130), Jake Huddleston (140), Jordan Strain (152), Hedri Debeer (189), Tim Jones (215), and Josh McDonals (275).

Landmark Christian hosted St. Francis and Our Lady of Mercy last Friday and won both matches. The War Eagles beat St. Francis 54-4 and handed the Bobcats a 42-24 loss. Landmark wrestlers who did well were: Chad Thames (103), won both by pins, David White (112), won both by pins, Michael Gable (130), won both by pins, Roger Gunter (135) won both by pins, Kadin Garlington (145), one by pin and one by forfeit, Trey Avant (171), one by pin and one by forfeit, Tim Creamer (189), one by pin and one by forfeit, Cody Crook (215), one by pin one one by forfeit and Sam Brown (275) one forfeit.

The War Eagles will host Walker and Our Lady of Mercy today at 5 p.m. and will compete in the Pace tournament on Saturday.
