Golf cart ordinance passes council

Senoia residents now have the go-ahead to go riding around the town's historic streets in golf carts.

But City Administrator Richard Ferry said the city will continue to see if the ordinance can be further modified to meet requests from the city’s residents.

As it stands, the ordinance models the state law which allows 18 year-olds and above to operate the carts. It also allows 15-year olds with a learner’s permit to operate the vehicles, as long as an 18-year-old with a driver’s license is in the cart.

But one issue that residents want to see addressed is older residents who may not have a license, but want to operate a cart. Resident Jack Humphrey told the City Council in early May that several residents can’t get a license because of medical conditions, but would like to drive the cart just around town or to the grocery store.

Ferry plans to report back to the Council later this year on his findings.
