Registration starts Friday June 1 for entries in the 2007 July 4th parade in Peachtree City.

City residents, churches, service organizations and businesses can register for free starting June 1. A week later all other Fayette County residents, churches, service organizations can register for $25 and Fayette County businesses can register for $50.

No out-of-county entries will be allowed to enter, but a few are being invited such as Delta Airlines, which adds character to the parade with its inflatable airborne plane that is escorted along the route.

This year’s parade starts at 9 a.m. July 4, starting on Peachtree Parkway near Braelinn Golf Course.

The parade will go north on the parkway until it reaches McIntosh Trail, where it will turn left before dispersing at Huddleston Elementary School and the McIntosh Trail recreation complex.

As always the city’s annual fireworks display will begin at dusk. The city is asking residents not to lay out blankets, chairs and the like until 3 p.m. that day in a bid to protect the grass.

The unattended blankets have drawn complaints from citizens who show up at a more reasonable time to find a spot but have difficulty doing so because of the already “staked out” viewing areas.
