It’s May, and that means it’s time for the 39th annual Old Courthouse Art Show weekend. The much anticipated event will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 20 from noon to 5 p.m. and will offer many different activities for people of all ages.

The art show weekend includes a two-day, juried fine arts show on the old courthouse grounds complete with a performing arts stage and food vendors. The performing arts stage will feature Irish dancers, bands, theater groups and the Fayette Idol winners.

One block away, the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife Museum invites everyone to sample “A Taste of Living History” exhibit on the museum lawn. Step back in time to the early 1800s and discover how every day items were created by hand. Also, an “Antiques Alley” has been added this year with several vendors selling their treasured possessions. “A Taste of Living History” exhibit invites the community to walk through a Civil War camp site and watch the soldiers perform rifle drills; view hand-sewn quilts displayed throughout the museum; make rope and shell corn using an old-fashioned turn wheel; watch how an old forge is used to create every day items; marvel as Georgia clay is at its finest thrown on an old kick wheel; learn how to weave a basket, make a fiddle and cane a chair; observe depictions of local historical events throughout the museum; have a picture taken in a cut-out of Scarlett’s “picnic” dress; and attend a children’s trunk show in the museum called “Games My Great Grandparents Played.”

All exhibits are on the museum lawn except for the trunk show. To tour the museum and attend the trunk show, admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.

To round out the weekend, for the sixth year, downtown Fayetteville will come alive with a variety of delicious tastes dished up by local restaurants with the Taste of Fayette on Sunday, May 20 from noon to 5 p.m. at Stonewall Village. The Taste of Fayette is continuing with a non-food section with informational booths for local businesses.

“Last year the public got not only a taste of Fayette’s cuisine, but also a taste of the local businesses,” said Nancy Price, director of Main Street. “The event draws record crowds every year and it’s a relatively inexpensive way to market a business.”

Attendees will be able to choose tastes from a variety of restaurants priced from $.50 to $3. Tokens are available at ticket booths.

The Taste of Fayette is sponsored by Fayetteville Main Street and is just one of the many events slated for 2007.
