One of country music’s living legends will spend his Memorial Day in Senoia this year. Doug Stone, who grew up in Newnan and has four No. 1 country singles on his resume, will appear at this year’s celebration.

“He’ll be singing three or four songs and signing autographs,” said Downtown Development Authority member Suzanne Helfmann. She said Stone’s appearance will occur shortly after the parade, which begins at 2 p.m.

“We’re hopeful that he’ll ride in the parade,” she added.

Stone’s appearance is just one element of the city’s celebration. The event begins at 10 a.m. with entertainment all day including the parade. Downtown festivities will continue all day concluding with an evening fireworks display at Leroy Johnson Park on Howard Road.

“We were really pleased with last year’s fireworks display and the same people are doing it for us again,” Helfmann said.

“The Car Guys”, Scott Sargeant and Charlie Filkins, of 720 The Voice will MC the celebration while Wesley Culpepper of WC Sounds provides music all day. Other entertainment includes Civil and Revolutionary War re-enactors, arts and crafts dealers, pony rides and face painting.
