The Spider-Man movies are great. They are arguably the best superhero movies of all time. That being said, “Spider-Man 3” is the worst of the three. It’s not bad, it’s actually pretty good, but the other two surpass it with a more streamlined story and some better interplay with the characters.

This movie opens with everything going great for SpiderMan/Peter Parker. He has his day job, his hero job, and his girlfriend, Mary Jane, who is now a Broadway star.

You know the good times won’t last forever, but it sure seems like they do.

Eventually, Mary Jane loses her gig and gets annoyed with Peter, and Peter has to deal with a guy who can transform into sand, as well a vengeful Harry Osborn, out to destroy Spider-Man. Things get even more complicated when a rival photographer enters the picture and then this mysterious black goo latches on to Peter and makes him nasty.

Chances are, you already know how this movie ends, but if you haven’t seen this movie yet, here’s what you need to know.

• The action sequences are awesome. Sandman looks great, as does Venom, and though the initial fight between Peter and Harry gets a little confusing, the latter sequences more than make up for it.

• Peter and Mary Jane have zero chemistry. I don’t know whether to blame the actors or the script, but it gets old. They are about as much fun to watch as an old married couple.

• I loved Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy and Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. They were fun and brought some new life to the film.

• Tobey Maguire is still great. He is perfect as Peter and Spider-Man and the sequence with Bad Peter is hilarious.

• The movie is a little long and it takes an hour before Spidey gets the black suit.

If you liked the first two, you’ll like the third one. If you loved the first two, you might be a little disenchanted with the slower parts that don’t seem to add anything.

Still, as the first movie of what looks like an amazing summer movie season, it was a lot of fun.
