By: The Citizen
Seventeen year old Katherine Harris, a Russian-trained classical pianist and top prize winner of international competitions in five countries, will be the featured performer at a special benefit concert held at the USA headquarters of Operation Mobilization (OM), on Sunday, May 13 from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Harris is the daughter of OM missionaries Bill and Robin Harris. Born in Canada, Harris was trained in Yakutsk (Siberia), St. Petersburg, and Los Angeles. She has extensive performing and competing experience both in North America and countries of the former USSR. In September, Harris performed in New York at Carnegie's Weill Hall (as a Grand Prize winner of the World Piano Competition), and in March, she performed Liszt's Concerto No. 1 with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra near Los Angeles. The Sunday performance celebrates the installation of a seven-foot Diapason grand piano in the OM-USA Worship Center. Diapason pianos have been awarded the coveted JIS (Japan Industry Standard) mark of recognition for being of superb quality. The event will also include a dedication of the piano and a free-will offering for a music ministry traveling this summer to strengthen the Christian families and churches in Turkey. Entrance is free and all are welcome to attend the reception afterward. The OM-USA office is located at 285 Lynnwood Ave., Tyrone, Ga.
