Preparations underway for annual rose show

The South Metro Rose Society will be presenting its 22nd annual Rose Show on May 19 and 20 at Hood Avenue Elementary School in Fayetteville. The show is open to the public at no charge. In 2006, over 300 blooms and rose arrangements were entered into competition by area rosarians.

All local rose growers are invited to enter their roses into the competition and there is a novice class for those who have never won a blue ribbon in a show. Members of the society will be glad to advise newcomers on how to prepare and enter their roses by calling 770-631-3885.

All entries must be made at the show site between 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on May 19 for judging. From 1-4 p.m. on both days the public is encouraged to come and view the exhibition specimens of hybrid teas, grandifloras, floribundas, shrub roses, old garden roses, miniatures, climbers, and many other varieties.

In addition, rose bouquets will be sold and a 24 kt. gold-dipped rose and handcrafted birdfeeder will be raffled off. There will also be an information table where the public can get rose care hand-outs and answers to their rose questions from American Rose Society certified Consulting Rosarians.
South Metro Rose Society (SMRS) is an affiliate of the American Rose Society located in Shreveport, La.

The South Metro Rose Society meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month, except for May, June, July, August, and November, at The Heritage Bank located at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. For further information please contact 770-631-3885.
