By: The Citizen
The Sun City Peachtree Del Webb 2007 Summer Concert Series will kick off this weekend with Starship starring Mickey Thomas at the Fayetteville Villages Amphitheater. Gates will open for the Saturday, May 5 show at 7 p.m. and the opening act will go one at 8 p.m. Starship starring Mickey Thomas will take stage at 9 p.m. Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the decades of the ‘80s and ‘90s. With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of Rock Music’s most recognizable stars. Thomas made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around and Feel in Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band. In 1979, Thomas joined the Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist, after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Backed by the power of Thomas’ vocals, Jefferson Starship immediately scored a #1 hit with “Jane.” With this new sound and powerful new vocals, the group was renamed Starship and continued to record an amazing string of hits including “We Built This City” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987. Moreover, every Starship album released since 1979 has gone Gold, Platinum, or Multi-Platinum. Thomas’ stellar voice and video charisma on Starship’s video classics such as “We Built This City” and “Sara” have become staples on MTV and VH1. Material covered in Starship’s live performance ranges from Thomas’ tenure with The Elvin Bishop Band and Starship, as well as songs from his two solo albums. Hit singles throughout their career include “Fooled Around and Fell In Love,” “No Way Out,” and “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now.” Reserved and lawn seat tickets may be purchased online at www.villagesamphitheater.com or by calling Fayetteville Main Street at 770-719-4173. Advanced tickets for Starship are $30 for reserved and $25 for lawn. Cash, check, Visa, Mastercard and American Express are acceptable forms of payment. Starship is the first of six concerts that will be showcased this summer at The Villages. In addition, several free concerts will be offered including a Memorial Day Concert featuring the Army Ground Forces Band on May 26, Family Fun Film Night featuring “Happy Feet” on June 22 and “Charlotte’s Web” on July 27 and God & Country Night on Sept. 9. login to post comments |
