Elizabeth Weekley of Starr’s Mill High School in Fayetteville, Ga. has been selected as a MetroPCS 2006-2007 metro Atlanta Community Scholar winner. The Community Scholars Program provides college scholarships to 15 exemplary high school seniors in the metro Atlanta area who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

MetroPCS awards scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism, community service and academic excellence for this scholarship.

The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America, a national nonprofit educational support organization that seeks to involve the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement. Now in its fifth year, the Community Scholars Program has recognized 63 students with over $63,000 awarded in total scholarships.
“MetroPCS is dedicated to serving the young individuals that represent the future of the metro Atlanta area,” said Mike Loverde, director of advertising and public relations for MetroPCS of Georgia. “We believe this program not only reinforces the importance of volunteerism and education, but it’s also one small way we can show our commitment to this community. We are proud of this year’s winners and look forward to the meaningful contributions they will continue to make to the metro Atlanta area.”

Students interested in applying for next year’s scholarships may apply with their high school counselors or any local MetroPCS stores beginning November 2007. Scholarship finalists are notified in February 2008 and scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2008. Additional information is available by visiting www.metropcs.com/scholarship.
