Two Fayette County students won awards in the State Ag Day contests sponsored by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and Commissioner Tommy Irvin and Georgia Agriculture in the Classroom Council, Inc.

Annie Swords, a student at Landmark Christian School, received an honorable mention award in the Grades 4-8 category of the art competition. Christian Levesque, a Whitewater High School student, received an honorable mention award in the Grades 9-12 category of the art competition.

Students in Grades 4-8 and 9-12 were eligible to enter the essay portion of the contest with the theme of “Agriculture – for a Secure Future.” The art contest was open to K-12.

Irvin invited all of the winners to a special awards presentation at the State Capitol in March. First, second, and third places received cash awards and all of the winners, including the honorable mentions, received medals and certificates. The commissioner also hosted a breakfast for the winners and their guests at the Agriculture Building prior to the ceremony.

Featured during the ceremony were Governor Sonny Perdue, who issued a proclamation and Logan Scott, Ms. Teen Agriculture, who assisted Irvin in presentation of the awards.
