The Ga. Highway 54 corridor’s evolution between Fayetteville and Peachtree City as an office environment picked up steam during last Thursday’s meeting of the Fayette County Commission.

The commission unanimously approved two rezonings that change just over 10 acres from residential uses to Office-Institutional. The two tracts are located in Land Lots 58 and 70 and both agents said the property will be turned into professional office-space, such as dental offices.

The votes Thursday confirms the master plan being drafted by the city of Fayetteville and Fayette County for making the busy state highway a destination of choice for professionals who want to do business in the county.

In other news, Chairman Jack Smith introduced interim County Administrator Jack Krakeel to the crowd.

“His ability and knowledge of grant-writing should aid the county,” Smith said.

Krakeel thanked the commission for the opportunity and said he was focusing on getting his first budget prepared as an administrator. Krakeel also asked the county commission to give him permission to advertise for the position of public works director.

“Where do you plan on advertising this?” wondered Commissioner Eric Maxwell.

Krakeel said he would be placing the ad with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Georgia Municipal Association.

“We’ve also got two local papers that I think we should run the ad in. We might find somebody local,” Maxwell added.

Krakeel agreed and said he would get the advertisement placed this week.
