Fayette County resident David Paulk was recently appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to an official task force that will examine the state’s insurance programs.

The task force will function as part of the New Georgia Commission, and will review state government’s Risk Management Insurance Division and operations, including administration of the state’s insurance programs.

Paulk, director of Risk Management and Insurance for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), has headed ACCG’s nonprofit insurance and risk management programs for 17 years, providing specialty insurance programs for Georgia’s county governments.

On April 10, ACCG presented a report at the Governor’s Mansion during a meeting of the New Georgia Commission. At the meeting, Governor Perdue stated, “I believe the state can adopt and benefit from some of the techniques and management practices that have made the ACCG insurance programs so successful in providing cost-efficient insurance for county governments.”

Other appointees to the task force included Larry Gaunt, Ph.D., a Risk Management Professor at Georgia State University who is also a consulting actuary for the ACCG Insurance Programs, Gary Meigs, Risk Manager for the Southern Company and Art Kirchoffer, Risk Manager for BellSouth Corp. (AT&T).

The New Georgia Commission is a non-profit corporation led by CEOs and senior executives from all over the state. Their mission is to bring breakthrough thinking and a fresh perspective to ways state government can better manage its assets and services and map its strategic future.

The ACCG Insurance Programs include The Interlocal Risk Management Agency, Worker’s Compensation Self-Insurance Fund and ACCG Group Health Benefits Plan. These programs comprise the only insurance organizations dedicated to serving the needs of county governments, and are among the strongest and most successful programs of their kind nationally.
