A 41 year-old resident of the Fairburn and Union City area has been charged in the mid-April burglaries of three businesses at Hudson Plaza in Fairburn.

Nick DeAngelo Smith, with no current address at the time of his arrest, was charged in the April 14 burglaries of Judy’s Restaurant and Expedia shipping and computer services and the April 17 burglary of Cuatro Camino grocery and restaurant, according to Det. Ben Pace.

The investigation of the Cuatro Camino burglary led police to Smith, Pace said, who had attempted to sell merchandise from the burglary. Smith subsequently confessed to the Cuatro Camino burglary, but was charged in the two other Hudson Plaza break-ins after investigators established probable cause involving inconsistencies with Smith’s statements, Pace said. Smith was also identified in a photo line-up as having sold phone cards stolen in the Cuatro Camino burglary, Pace added.

Perhaps related to the burglaries was the presence of blood found on the premises after all three burglaries, Pace said. Blood samples have been submitted to the state crime lab for analysis.

Smith’s son, 21 year-old Nick Smith, Jr., was charged with two counts of burglary in the Feb. 7 and 17 break-ins of a store-front Mexican restaurant on Senoia Road.
