Fans of football in Fayette County may want to adopt the Detroit Lions as their second favorite NFL team to root for. Not only is Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson, a Sandy Creek High School alum, their new receiver, but NC State's John Deraney, an alumni of Fayette County High School, recently signed with the Lions as well.

Deraney served as kicker and punter for the Wolfpack and earned high praise for his ability to do both well. There was a chance that he was going to be drafted by the Washington Redskins, but the Lions expressed interest as well and now Deraney will take his feet to the Motor City.
