Southside welcomes ‘Unexpected Guest’Thu, 04/26/2007 - 3:56pm
By: Michael Boylan
As “The Unexpected Guest” opens, a man lies dead in a wheelchair and another man stumbles upon what is very likely a murder with a houseful of suspects. From the minute the curtain opens at Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn, local audiences will be scratching their heads and trying to figure out “whodunit.” “The Unexpected Guest” was written by Agatha Christie and though it does not feature a famous detective, there are plenty of people trying to get to the bottom of the murder and to do so they must get through webs of deceit, blackmail, infidelity and rage. The show features a cast of familiar favorites along with some new faces. Matthew Drake, last seen in the MAT Award winning production of “All My Sons,” plays the role of Starkwell, while Anne Eidson (“Nuncrackers”) will play the role of Benny and Ray Greene (“Dracula”) will play the role of Inspector Thomas. Among the new faces on stage are Richard Burke as Jan Warwick, Marian Johnson as Mrs. Warwick, Thom Grindle as Angell, Adrienne Harris as Sergeant, Drea Lewis as Laura Warwick and Phil Morton as Julian Carr. The show is directed by Johnson and Dwain Eidson and both think audiences will enjoy the twists and turns. The cast certainly did, several of them were shocked when the final pages presented a twist they hadn’t considered before. While the show features a murder and adult themes, there is no violence or profanity on stage, so older children may enjoy enjoy the play.
