In an effort to bring the community together through an outreach ministry, Flat Rock A.M.E. Church and Clark Atlanta University Educational Talent Search is reaching out to the senior citizens and seniors in high school who are in need of assistance.

The church has started a ministry called "Seniors In Need."

"We feel the acronym S.I.N. is very appropriate," said church pastor, the Rev. Edward J. Johnson Jr. "We feel it is a sin to have any senior in need.

"On a daily basis, many senior citizens must make challenging decisions about whether or not they can afford food or medication or even pay their utility bills. Too often high school seniors must decide whether or not to go to college because they and their families lack the financial support to allow them to do so.

"S.I.N. is designed to eliminate some of these heart-wrenching and sometimes life altering, difficult decisions," he said.

On this Saturday, April 28, the first event will be held at The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville, where a free concert for senior citizens will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. A gospel concert will feature nationally known gospel singer, Helen Baylor, along with local talent as headliners.

A fund-raiser concert will be in the evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $20 per person and two canned good items. S.I.N. will donate the canned goods to a non-profit within the county, and the proceeds from the concert will be divided between the Flat Rock A.M.E. S.I.N. program and the Clark Atlanta University Educational Talent Search program.

"We feel this ministry will help our senior citizens with assistance needed for their daily necessities and our high school seniors with the assistance in going on to college," said Rev. Johnson.

The Fayette community is invited to support and attend this event. For information or to purchase tickets, call the Rev. Johnson at 770-856-3271, cell, or 770-460-6446, home.
