FreeSpeech for 4-25-07

To all in Peachtree City, if I lived in PTC, I would run for mayor. I would stand in the gazebo at The Avenue and proclaim that I would support the requests of the residents, stop the unnecessary developing and have a growth reputation like police have with predators. The developers are being predators on your community. I would stand strong, use the power of the mayor position (veto and deny) and keep my word. The current and past mayor of PTC has lacked integrity, stability, accountability and [courage]. “Say what you mean, mean what you say and live by solid standards.” If you can not be truthful, I am sure the sheriff has your pinstripe size and a trash bag for roadside activity as that is where criminals best serve the community.

-------------

My husband and I have been part of the group of “luke warm” citizens that Steve Brown mentioned in his editorial in The Citizen dated April 18, 2007. We agree that it is time to become more involved in what is happening in Peachtree City. It is very easy to become complacent when everything is running smoothly. The city is beautiful and has amenities we’ve never dreamed of having in other areas of the country we’ve lived. We feel we are fortunate to live in this very special community, but, especially at the present time, we need to be willing to extend ourselves a bit, get involved, to keep the wonderful city we have. We attended the City Council meeting of April 19, and were shocked by the mayor’s aggressive action against the Peachtree City Civic Association speaker. The speaker was polite and made constructive statements. The mayor appeared to have an agenda to verbally attack this speaker in what it appeared to us was an attempt to discredit the speaker and the entire PTC Civic Association. In our view, it appeared that the mayor succumbed to a temptation to make personal attacks. In all arguments there usually are two sides to every story. We have heard all of the bad things that could, and probably would, happen if the extension of TDK Boulevard goes through. Has anyone heard of anything positive for Peachtree City? We have to wonder why this extension is still being considered. The same question applies to the rezoning of Ga. Highway 74/Rockaway Road. We understand over 90 percent of the residents are against this. There have been valid reasons shown why this shouldn’t be done. Still we have to go to meeting after meeting to keep it from being “railroaded” through.

-------------

Why upset a good thing? Peachtree City has been named by Relocate-America as one of the top 100 places to reside in the United States. Our city has received this honor due to its unique combination of low crime, careful planning and balanced growth. Now let’s think about this. Why are we even entertaining the idea of taking this carefully planned community that has been noted with positive recognition numerous times and upsetting its structure? I think the trade-off speaks for itself. Let’s once and for all forget the rezoning issues, and big box stores on Hwy. 74 and throughout our city.

-------------

Mayor Logsdon’s behavior at the last city council meeting certainly made him seem culpable. He kept mumbling so no one could hear him. The audience had to keep yelling, “Speak up, we can’t hear you.” He verbally assaulted a man who got up and spoke against TDK. His moving the big box issue all the way to the June agenda was irresponsible. One councilman wanted to have the vote, but the mayor would have none of it.

-------------

I’m sure some sort of euphemism exists for calling someone foolish beyond belief but I can’t think of one at the time of jotting down this post. A.A. Milne described Winnie the Pooh as a bear “of little brain” to soften the blow. Mayor Logsdon, in Pooh-like fashion, behaved as though he had succumbed to some form of mental collapse at the last meeting of council. He harassed a gentleman for reciting a resolution in opposition to the TDK road. The mayor also ranted at the crowd because someone in the newspaper said he was previously employed as a telephone lineman. Then, beyond all comprehension, he admitted to being a telephone lineman, which led everyone to wonder why he would stage such a tirade about someone declaring the same. It was evident the strain from the large numbers of people present to voice their displeasure about TDK at the meeting of council triggered the mayor to feel trapped in what has now developed into a dreadfully transparent charade. Shame on the remaining councilmen for failing to stop the charade.

-------------

Mayor Logsdon promised us he was going to take care of the service delivery issues with the Fayette County commissioners. No one at City Hall can tell me why he has decided to totally drop trying to get Peachtree City’s funds back for services we aren’t receiving. The mayor crumbles like a cracker every time we need him to stand up to the other governments. Coweta County is laughing at us over TDK. Stop breaking the promises, try to show some leadership and get our taxes back from the county instead of increasing our millage tax again 2008.

-------------

We had some years of controlled growth under Murray Weed, Steve Rapson and Steve Brown. The developers hated it and they sent the attack dogs in to rip them apart. They sent up a smoke screen and got their puppets in. I’m sick of Harold Logsdon’s all-out war to allow destructive development. A lot of us who were (notice the past tense) Boone and Logsdon supporters are very embarrassed by the horrible decisions coming out of City Hall. Everyone needs to start fighting for PTC’s future.

-------------

I’m a bit floored by developer Scott Bradshaw’s take on having committee meetings in closed-door sessions. Let’s face it, private contractors and developers try to steal influence away from the taxpayers all the time. The state attorney general had to condemn the Georgia Department of Transportation from accepting luxury meals and entertainment from contractors and lobbyists. Mr. Bradshaw said the taxpayers did not pay for the private lunch for the West Village Impact Fee Committee. OK, then, who did pay for the shindig? Did local developer Bradshaw pay? Did developer John Wieland pay? Did developer Levitt and Sons pay? Did the money fall from the sky? This deal smells like rotten garbage. Shame on the mayor for giving his stamp of approval for this.

-------------

Another big lie has surfaced in our town of Tyrone. Town Manager Barry Amos and Mayor Sheryl Lee promised we wouldn’t expand our sewer capacity. Just as local watchdogs predicted, they want to push more high-density development on us. Just as Mayor Lee promised before her election she wouldn’t increase the density of the Wieland land, but did it after everyone cast their ballots, we are seeing another whopper unfold before our very eyes. They said no sewer capacity increases. They said no increases in housing density. Mayor Lee and Manager Amos should be relieved of their duties.

-------------

The politics in Fayette County and PTC are absolutely played to hurt the residents. It is a joke to add another home improvement store (there are two Home Depots, one Lowe’s, two Wal-Marts) in the county. There are plenty of all other types of stores also, except for woman’s clothing. After reading the Free Speech comments, there has not been one comment that the residents are requesting another Lowe’s, more shopping, more eateries, more housing, more traffic. If the residents are not requesting items, why is so much being built? Kickbacks? Illegal favors from developers to politicians? There is no meaning of “no” in PTC. It’s sad but true: This mayor and the previous both lie.

-------------

Peachtree City got ripped off in the Tour de Georgia race. Because Medalist Sports set up a 1 p.m. start time, most of the teams and their entourage spent their lodging and meal money in Atlanta. I spoke to crew members from three different teams and they all spent their time and money in Atlanta and then headed down to Peachtree City the day of the race. The Jittery Joe’s team was probably the best represented in Peachtree City because they have a Jittery Joe’s franchise in Kedron. Think of the money that would have landed in the hands of local businesses if the start time had been earlier in the morning.

-------------

Hey, why don’t you have anything about your guys and the Boston Marathon who held the lead all the way to Cleveland Circle and then disappeared? I’m talking of Jared Nyamboki and Josephat Ongeri, those guys the Boston Globe identified today as “from Fayetteville, Ga.” that everyone was talking about yesterday. The fact that they came out so strong and led the back all the way for 25 kilometers was fantastic, despite the ridicule of the announcers: “They’re coming out too strong.” Yep, they did, but they held it for a long, long time. We thought we’d at least see a feature on them in your newspaper. They took the Boston Marathon in their gold slippers by storm. Hooray for Jared and Josephat, both from Kenya, of course, but right now, living in Crackerland. Cheers to the home of my mother’s people and my kins’ alma mater (Jawja Tech).

-------------

The President is wrong. Now is the ideal time to debate gun control while this newest tragedy is fresh in the minds of everybody. Strike while the iron is hot. The NRA puppets are already out in full force.

-------------

Don’t just pray. Get rid of the guns.

-------------

Safe or sorry? When the only one with a gun in a “gun-free-zone” is a crazy, how safe are the innocent and law-abiding?

-------------

Crisis management at Whitewater High School: Could you please find out why the teachers and staff at Whitewater were told by Principal Stillions not to discuss the shootings today at Virginia Tech with the student body? Our children need to be informed and comforted and protected by these people. This veil of secrecy and inaction is the very reason our schools are ill-equipped to handle these threats against our children. We as parents have a right to know that are children are safe and protected during the day while they are in the care of the school.

-------------

The principal at this school needs to be looked into. Why does a principal of a middle school have the power to ban a parent until he gets ready to lift the ban? This parent was banned for not signing in at office when she first entered the building. At first she was accused of handing out T-shirts which was not true. Then they changed the story to not signing in. There have been many problems with this principal. We have talked with him on many occasions about the filthy language and sex acts on the buses, but nothing was done. According to him it is OK for a black student to call white children, “Crackers,” and other black children the N-word, but its not OK for white children to do the same. He has also told me on the phone that “people like me will never be satisfied.” I asked him what he meant by that and he refused to answer. There is much more going on at this school than everybody knows.

-------------

Coming from educated parents and a family full of educators, I can not believe the lack of homework that is assigned at a high school off of Hwy. 74 South. My child has good grades and never has homework. It must be a new type of math because that equation does not add up to good grades. I guess there is a new meaning to no child left behind. Whatever happened to the days when homework was a requirement? As I have always said, if a teacher wants to minimize their efforts, the best way is not to assign homework. My suggestion: Increase the homework because the only injustice is to the student. It is the school’s responsibility to prepare the student for higher education, otherwise the military and other government programs will continue to absorb them until we become a third-world country. If a student has weak study skills (skills mostly learned from homework assignments) they will not be prepared for college or the real world when they have to think or need a discipline that involves different thought processes. I hear it quite often when assigned a task: What do you mean? I have no clue what you are talking about. Are you crazy, how am I supposed to figure that out? Teachers, this is your choice, these are the people that will hopefully be working and feeding the Social Security system. It is hard to find good help, it is hard to find bad help and if our educational system does not improve, our help will say, “Buenos dias,” or are we almost there?

-------------

I applaud the Rovers for their dedication to true Christian belief and the courage they and all the members of St. Andrew’s have displayed. There is a need for correction, however, when they refer to 2,000 years of Anglican theology. The Anglican church was only begun 500 years ago under the secular direction of Henry VIII and of the English parliament. The inciting cause was the issue of divorce which Jesus himself spoke against. I hope that through prayerful consideration all Christian faiths can be united.

-------------

I know the person who sent in the Free Speech stating that they were disappointed in their senior pastor who preached from Daniel on Easter Sunday. I’m sorry that you were disappointed in the Word Of God being preached at church. Every Sunday is the Lord’s Day and we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection every day, particularly on Sundays, not just Easter. With what’s going on in the world nowadays, I think that there are better things to be concerned about and pray about. As for your comment that did someone forget to tell him that it was Easter Sunday, I guess you missed the beginning of his message where he told everybody that even though it was Easter, he was preaching from Daniel. It was a great, uplifting message.

-------------

About editing letters to the newspaper: As far as I’m concerned, they are not edited enough. I still see way too much input from the one individual who’s complaining the most. One or two words would be enough from him to last me for quite awhile.

-------------

Candlelight vigils are wonderful feel-good events. However, for better results, I suggest you learn where the Fulton/Fayette border is and make sure that your wannabe rappers stay on the Fulton side when committing felonies. They give bonds to just about anyone there. Fayette County is still a good place to live because criminals are treated as such here. By the way, most modern handguns cannot discharge from being dropped. The trigger has to be pulled. Maybe that is why the officers did not listen to your story.

-------------

I would just like to remind the citizens of Fayette County that April 26 is Confederate Memorial Day. I hope all remember not only those who died in the war, but those who came home maimed, and everything they had was gone or destroyed, the wives and children, the mothers and fathers who lost their loved ones. Yet all of them rebuilt and helped Fayette County grow into the great county it is today.

-------------

Let’s face it, the Fayette County schools are not as good as they claim to be. The district is nothing more than a group of faces playing politician with the state rankings and scores. It is very apparent that all that matters to the district is bragging about blue ribbons when in fact they deserve a black ribbon when it comes to “special needs children.” Most notorious for hiding everything is the Peeples/Rising Starr/Starr’s Mill Complex. There are many parents that have withdrawn their children from these schools due to an incompetent program and staff. Did you know that the teachers assigned to special ed are not certified? Do you know that they manipulate IEP wording in their favor in case they are audited? Parents of special needs children are at a disadvantage at this complex; the program is only getting worse. Why are teachers leaving the county because they are not supported by the district for educational improvement? It would be interesting if a true survey was conducted of how many children have been withdrawn and how many parents are dissatisfied. It would be great to have the survey sorted by schools. I believe many eyes would be opened. Stand up and support your children because we all know the schools are not blue ribbon winners when they can not help the ”Special Ones.”

-------------

Construction work is fast becoming “work Americans won’t do.” Whose job is next?

-------------

A religion that can warp the mind of a child as young as 12 years old to make him hack a living man’s head off while screaming, “God is great,” is not a religion but devil-worship, if not worse. We should wake up to that fact when we try to pacify the “peaceful” Muslims that are going quietly about the process of taking over our country while abiding by the same teaching this young boy had. Please don’t publish my name because I would certainly be put on their hit list if they know who I am.
