A resident’s request to annex into Tyrone failed this week after the town learned the application violated state law.

Town Manager Barry Amos explained that Robert Turner wanted to annex 21 acres on Mann Road into the town because he said he could receive better services. The town sent the request to Fayette County and learned of the county’s objections.

“The county objected because they said it would create an unincorporated island,”said Amos.
After the town did further research, it discovered a part of Turner’s property would create an island.

Turner currently lives on the property and wanted to create two parcels.

“We’d love to have him in Tyrone, but we can’t violate the state law,” Amos said.
