Evolving Pointe, Inc., a nonprofit dance company dedicated to cultural enrichment through performing arts, and Dance Contempra, the center for dance education, will be performing an original and innovative ballet, “The Grinch ... A Contemporary Ballet,” Dec. 3-4 at Starr’s Mill High School Auditorium.

“The Grinch ... A Contemporary Ballet” combines classical and contemporary styles and is loosely based on Dr. Seuss’s classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This production was premiered in December of last year. The ballet was loved by all, especially the very young. The second night of the performance, several small children were seen watching from the bottom of the stage with their chins resting on the stage. Last year’s performance was met with loud cheers and many children wanted to get their picture made with the various characters. Having received fan mail and calls requesting they do it again, Evolving Pointe has decided to bring the performance back for another year.

The 2004 performance had a cast of 87 and this year it has grown to a cast of 125 made up entirely of Evolving Pointe company members and students from Dance Contempra. Many roles have been double cast to give more students the opportunity to perform a major part.

The company is excited to announce a second season with new choreography and the addition of several new characters. Evolving Pointe hopes to renew the community’s interest in dance and the arts with their ballet. They also want to expose individuals who might not otherwise be able to attend a ballet to a quality, entertaining, and fun performance.

Saturday’s performance will be held at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s will be held at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students, and free for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Center Stage, Smith and Davis Clothing, Swoozies, Dance Contempra, or at the door.
