The Georgia Department of Transportation and its contractor, McCarthy Improvement, is advising motorists traveling through Coweta County on Interstate 85 northbound that the outside lane will be closed Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, and Monday, April 23 with locations and times varying. Two lanes will remain open.

Additionally, lane closures continue on I-85 south of Hwy. 34.

Lane closures northbound — Milepost 49.5 to Milepost 50.5, the outside lane will be closed Saturday, April 21, from 7 a.m. through 4 p.m.

Northbound — Milepost 47.5 to Milepost 49.5, the outside lane will be closed Friday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. through 8 p.m. and Monday, April 23, from 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.

These locations are north of exit 47, Hwy. 34/Bullsboro Road.

Traffic control devices such as signs, barrels and cones will be used to alert and direct motorists through the work zone. Speed limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced.

Scheduled work is continuing to replace the existing road surface and construct the widening north from the intersection of Hwy. 34/Bullsboro Road to the Fulton County line on Interstate 85. This project extends 9.705 miles in both north- and southbound directions and is expected to be completed by October 2009.

South of Hwy. 34 on I-75 there will be lane closures in both directions from Monday through Friday, April 23 through April 27, between mileposts 41 and 46, according to the GDOT.

These closures will shift daily within these locations. This closure is due to the widening and lane reconstruction project currently underway. Shoulders are closed in these construction areas, and extreme caution should be observed.

Lane closures northbound — Milepost 41 to Milepost 42 the outside lane will be closed Monday, April 23, through Thursday, April 26, from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. following morning.

Southbound — Milepost 46 to Milepost 41 the outside lane will be closed Monday, April 23 through Thursday, April 26, from 7 p.m. through 4 p.m. following day.

All lanes will be open from 4 p.m through 7 p.m. daily.

As previously announced, this project is expected to be completed Dec. 31, 2009.

During this construction period, motorists can expect shoulder and lane closures on a continuing basis.
