Discovery's Leipheimer wins time trial

American Levi Leipheimer mastered the uphill Individual Time Trial of the 2007 Tour de Georgia for a second stage victory for his Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team. Leipheimer outdistanced American David Zabriskie of Team CSC by 41 seconds; Zabriskie finished improved from third place in last year’s ITT to second. Australian Nathan O’Neill of Health Net presented by Maxxis finished third in the stage at 1’18” back.

With yesterday’s time trial results, Slovenian Janez Brajkovich of Discovery Channel moved up in the standings to become the General Classification leader. American Christian VandeVelde of Team CSC is second, with Swiss rider Rubens Bertogliati of Prodir-Saunier Duval in third. The stage win helped Leipheimer move to 13th overall, but he is still 26 minutes down.
