Fayette County jail coalition

A group of concerned citizens and business people met with jail personnel regarding programs for short term inmates. The coalition emerges out of a Leadership Fayette project.

This growing ministry presently focuses on three issues:

• Facilitate a GED program for qualified candidates that will allow them more job options upon their return into the community;

• Stock the jail library with motivational and inspirational paper back books. Donation boxes have been placed at Peachtree National, Suntrust and Regions banks. Books can also be dropped off at the jail as well as local church libraries;

• Coordinate and sustain ministries to inmates to change their lives and better our community.

Geoff Fulton, a local CPA, and Kevin Snyder, a local lawyer, are working with John Reeves and volunteer administrator Brandy Seiler to gain non-profit status. McFarland, Ervin, and Beason continue to remain active in ministry in the jail.  Navarr works with the county services. Brooks, Monsour and Bradley have become involved through Leadership Fayette. The new board plans to do all it can to sustain an on-going system of support to inmates. Local citizens’ involvement at the jail will improve quality of life for inmates, jail staff, and our entire community.

Fayette county residents can help by donating paperback books or making contributions for the GED program. Questions regarding the program can be handled through Lt. Steve Coker at the jail.
