Samuel C. Hunter, 87, Peachtree City, died April 9, 2007. He was born June 4, 1919 in Portage, Pa. He attended the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and was graduated from Ben Franklin University in Washington, D. C. He served in the United States Army in World War II for four years, with two of those years with the 103rd Infantry Division in the European Theater. He had walked over 500 fighting miles through France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. He then settled in Alexandria, Va., working for the Pentagon, receiving the Navy Superior Civilian Award. Retiring after 31 years, he moved to Naples, Fla., and then to Peachtree City. He collected model trains, and enjoyed tennis and golf. He had a hole in one at age 79 and played golf until the age of 82 years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling worldwide. A memorial service will be this Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Richard Dodds officiating. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen S. Hunter, Peachtree City; children, John and Lenora Hunter, Birmingham, Ala., Diane and John McLaren, Virginia Beach, Va., and James and Ann Hunter, Peachtree City; and six grandchildren. Memorial donations may be given to Vista Care Hospice, 1885 Hwy. 34 East, Newnan, GA 30265. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge. login to post comments |
