The Newnan Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) will hold its free Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair Saturday, Apr. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church’s Newnan building, 821 Old Atlanta Hwy., Newnan. Under the direction of Newnan Ward Emergency Preparedness Specialist Millie Meyer of Fairburn, the fair will have something for everyone, with a wide variety of activities, instructions, helpful hints and advice on how to weather an emergency, whether it’s weather-related or not. “The primary purpose of the fair is to help encourage people to learn how to use what we have stored,” says Meyer, noting that the LDS Church advises its members to have a year’s supply of food on hand at all times. Also attending will be FEMA’s Candice Burrell who will have literature and who will answer questions about how FEMA’s services work. Numerous other services and exhibits, some provided by youth of the church, will be provided for the fair, which will use the entire Newnan building except for the chapel. As part of the fair, the Newnan Family History Center will be open for individuals interested in genealogy. login to post comments |
