Road closings for race day

Stage One (Peachtree City to Macon) of the 2007 Tour de Georgia will be held on Monday, April 16.

The race is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Peachtree City Municipal Plaza (City Hall/Library) and wind its way over 16 miles through Peachtree City, portions of unincorporated Fayette County and Brooks. The estimated travel time for the entire Fayette County portion of the race is approximately forty (40) minutes.

The scheduled route is: Leave Municipal Plaza and turn right onto Willowbend Road and then right onto Floy Farr Parkway (Hwy 54). The Race will cross Lake Peachtree and make a u-turn at the Wyndham Hotel crossover and travel back to Willowbend Road. It will then make another u-turn and proceed back east on Floy Farr Parkway to Peachtree Parkway, right onto Peachtree Parkway, right onto Robinson Road, right onto Redwine Road, left onto Joel Cowan Parkway (Hwy 74), left onto Georgia Highway 85, right onto 85 Connector, then travel through Brooks and into Spalding County.

This event will have a substantial impact on vehicular traffic in many areas of Fayette County.

Willowbend Road between Georgia Highway 54 and Hip Pocket Road will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m.

All streets, roads and highways listed above on the route will also be closed for a period of approximately 15 minutes as the Race proceeds along the route.

No traffic will be allowed on the roadway during this brief time period. All intersections and driveways (business and residential) will have to be closed while the Race progresses along the route.

Please avoid the roadways along the route if at all possible during this time period. If you must travel near any of these areas for whatever reason please plan accordingly.

Peachtree City and Fayette County public safety agencies and public works departments along with many other groups and organizations are assisting with this event in order that it may proceed as safely as possible with the least amount of inconvenience to anyone.

All of these agencies and departments are asking for the assistance and cooperation of the motorists during this event.
