The official start of the 2007 Tour de Georgia is the main event, but there will be some extra activities to help kick off the race this year.
After a press conference on Saturday afternoon, the teams and riders will participate in an announcement ceremony before the Paul Rodgers concert at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.

The event is free to people with tickets to Saturday’s concert and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the town of Tyrone will hold a bike safety rodeo from 3-5 p.m. at Shamrock Park.
The lead-up to the race will get started on Monday around 10 a.m. with entertainment coming from Booth Middle School’s jazz band and orchestra.

Students will also perform a selection from their recent production of “Aladdin Jr.” The jump roping team from Crabapple Elementary School will also perform before the race.
There will also be inflatables for children of all ages to use, vendors, food and much more. Citizens will also get a chance to see the teams warming up and signing in and they have a chance at meeting the cyclists at Autograph Alley.
Prior to the race Cal Cheatham will sing the national anthem and Savannah Solomon will be the official starter for Stage 1.

Throughout the rest of the week there will be lots of events at the stage starts and finishes as well as cities in between.

Newnan will host a sprint line on Tuesday as the race moves from Thomaston to Rome and will have lots of fun stuff to do in the hours leading up to the action.

For fans who want more cycling or even want to get on a bike themselves, there are several options.

There will be the USHF Series Clocktower ClassicHandcycling Downtown Criterium in Rome on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the road race start on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. On Friday morning, cycling enthusiasts can “Circle the Bald” at Brasstown Bald Mountain and ride either 12 or 36 miles with a mass start at 8 a.m. Registration is open at www.sabacycling.com

On Saturday, there will be a Biking for Beans fundraiser bicycle ride starting at Lake Lanier Islands at 8 a.m. Registration is open at www.active.com.

Saturday finishes with the BriarRose Grand Peleton, a fundraiser for the Georgia Cancer Coalition, that allows riders to ride the same course as the Tour de Georgia participants.
Registration for this race is also on www.active.com.
