The Fayette County Bar Association has arranged for the Georgia Court of Appeals to hold hearings in Fayetteville on April 18, 2007, so students and other citizens can observe how the process works. The session will begin at 10 a.m. next Wednesday at the Sams Auditorium at the old Fayette County High School building on LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville. It is expected to last approximately 90 minutes. The five public high schools in the county have agreed to bring a total of 625 government students to the court session and will be studying the court briefs in class the days before the session. “Every now and then the Court of Appeals will travel from Atlanta to conduct court in the outlying areas,” said Jason Thompson, president of the Fayette County Bar Association. “This year, through the efforts of Christy Dunkelberger and Superior Court Judge Chris Edwards, the Court of Appeals has agreed to come to Fayetteville ... We chose Sams Auditorium because we wanted to give the students in Fayette County a chance to see this remarkable event.” There will be approximately 100 seats open to the public and they will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and everyone will asked to be in their seat no later than 9:40 a.m. Due to limited parking, anyone attending is encouraged to carpool. login to post comments |
