Chiefs win Tuesday’s quad meet, Panthers top IndiansThu, 12/01/2005 - 4:04pm

The McIntosh Chiefs varsity wrestling team swept their Quad Meet at McIntosh on Tuesday night by beating Cross Keys 58 – 23, Columbia 62 – 18 and Our Lady of Mercy 84 – 0. Coach Nick Bellantoni was pleased with the team’s performance. “We are starting to show signs of coming together as a team. We are focused on being able to make mid-match adjustments that will allow us to react to our opponents’ tactics,” said Bellantoni. “Tonight I saw a number of our wrestlers do just that. I can definitely see progress. But this weekend’s Tournament at Lithia Springs will be a tough test and will show us our weaknesses.” The team was paced by Alan Sarvis at 119 lbs who won all three of his matches by pin. Other wrestlers with three wins included Jarrod Chamblee at 103 with two pins and one technical fall, Richard Hughes at 112l with two pins and one tech, Brett Buehler 135 – two pins, Matt Penn 140 – one pin, Carl Scheumann 145 – one pin, one major decision, Landis Ford 152 – two pins, and Matt Carroll 189 – two pins. Chiefs with two wins were Jim Murrel 125 – one pin, Matt Bozone 130 – one pin, Erik Willanzheimer 160, Andy Milani 171 – one pin, and Jonathan Smith 275 – two pins. Other wrestlers contributing wins during the competition included David Rogers 215, Jimmy Nash 103, Jacob Worthington 160 – two pins and Ryan Hudson 189 – two pins. The team’s duals record now stands at 6-3. Early season individual leaders are Richard Hughes with nine wins and no losses, Carl Scheumann and Matt Carroll both at 8 – 1, and Matt Penn and Landis Ford at 7 – 2. The Chiefs are in action this weekend with the junior varsity team participating in the Luella High School Invitational and the varsity squad at the tough Lithia Springs Invitational. Starr’s Mill hosted East Coweta on Wednesday nigt and won 60-15. Winners for the Panthers were: Jason Allen 103 - forfeit, Patrick Waters 112 - forfeit, Kevin Thurber 125 - pin, Brandon Ferguson 130 - pin, John Donaldson 135 - pin, Cory Radcliffe 140 - dec. 6-0, Brandon Witta 145 - pin, Matt Hartpence 152 - pin, Michael Strait 160 - OT win 16-14, Jeff Partlow 215 - pin, Bradley Conner 275 - pin.
